Katy is one of the regular teachers on Revive weekends and so many people are enjoying her energy. Yoga has become a central pillar of her life, both as a mum and teacher. Her experience of balancing multiple busy roles as well as embracing transformational change calmly, comes through in her teaching.
I believe if you’ve arrived on your yoga mat with expectations of the session, it is up to me to make it worth your while – so I always strive to ensure that I teach a variety of different styles according to the individual or group. I love a workout, so I try to ensure you leave invigorated. I like to offer everything from entry level to advanced and I’m always happy to provide options and to make modifications. It’s a time for you, to forget about your day, your week and your to-do list and give something back to you, your body and your mind. Stretch, sweat and relax.
Katy took a leap relatively recently, by leaving behind the fast paced corporate land that she knew so well, to become a yoga teacher .
I spent 20 years working in corporate events in business development throughout which I have always kept fit through running, gym and yoga, but I never seemed to achieve a satisfactory work-life balance. After the birth of my second child I realised that life would simply continue at that hectic pace, unless I made the right choices to do something about it. I had been practicing yoga more regularly and noticed how my moods, sleep, and general health were effected positively by it.
So I decided to take the plunge – I quit my career and changed direction. I completed my 200-hour training while continuing to work part time (and being mum) and immediately began to teach anyone who was willing. Very quickly I realised what a privilege it is to be able to teach and guide people through yoga practice and I wanted to teach more and more. I also completed my childrens’ teacher training and regularly teach younger children and teenagers.
And you’ll often find her upside down…..
Headstand / Sirsasana is my favourite pose – I love being inverted! Seeing things differently, slowing down. I like to come into headstand and stay for at least 3 minutes. I used to do this while my kids were trying to settle to sleep – now I like to headstand in unusual places – it gets some funny looks!
Katy will be teaching with Alan Lambie on the next Revive weekend 1st – 3rd June, and also as part of the lululemon line up at Detox Health Beauty Day at Archerfield on 12th May.
